Content Description

The 2017 edition of NFPA 36 helps you work to ensure greater fire safety and minimize the risks of working at solvent extraction plants. Implement the new rules in NFPA 36: Standard for Solvent Extraction Plants to mitigate the specialized hazards involved in extraction of oils from agricultural commodities using hydrocarbon solvents. Changes to this edition provide more information for operators and designers of solvent extraction plants and make NFPA 36 easier to apply and enforce. A new subsection addresses trenches for solids-collecting conveyors. A new subsection in Annex A provides references to assessment methods for determining the need for lightning protection. Section 8.2 has been revised for consistency with NFPA 30: Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code and to clarify the normal and emergency venting requirements. All exceptions have been rewritten in enforceable, mandatory language. Critical for designers, builders, operators, inspectors, and enforcement personnel, the latest edition of NFPA 36 is essential to help minimize risks associated with working in dust-laden or flammable vapor-laden atmospheres at solvent extraction plants.
